FLOATER DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

PHYSICAL REQUITEMENTS

This position requires body and hand mobility with the ability to lift up to 25 lbs. without assistance. Frequent walking, stooping, reaching and ability to stand for prolonged periods are also required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Drapery Floater will train to perform various entry level duties within the drapery department. This position is most suitable for the multitasker.

PRIMARY FUNCTION OF THE FLOATER

-Measuring, folding, pinning & stapling side hems of drapery panels by hand.

-Hand sewing drapery weights in the bottom hems of the drapery panels. 

-Marking pleats in the panels by hand utilizing a pleat mark measuring machine and basic math calculations to determine placement of the pleats on the panels.

-Pleating apprentice. Pleating is a semi auto sewing process used to sew pleats in the panels. The apprentice will train as backup to the main pleating operator.

-Hand cut sheer and delicate fabrics. 

-Occasional light sewing on a straight needle sewing machine.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Special skills include, basic math skills, ability to read and understand standard measurements and manufacturing tickets with acute attentiveness to detail. Basic entry level sewing skills. 

TOOLS

Hand sew needles, hand stapler, hand scissors, tape measure, straight needle industrial sewing machine, pleat marker and pleating machine.

TRAINING

5-6 weeks

1-2 weeks basic sewing training (if necessary)
